Stay safe while buying and selling on eClinton Market. Read these tips before your first transaction.
Never pay anyone outside of the eClinton Market platform. Our eClinton Pay escrow system holds your money safely until you confirm receipt. If a seller asks you to pay via personal bank transfer, WhatsApp payment, or cryptocurrency — that is a scam. Report them immediately.
Check the seller's verified badge, star rating, and review history before purchasing. Verified sellers have provided valid ID and phone number. Look for sellers with 10+ reviews and a 4-star rating or above. New accounts with no history require extra caution.
For physical item handovers, always meet in a busy public location like a bank, shopping mall, market, or police station. Never go to a seller's or buyer's private residence, especially alone. Bring a friend when possible.
For physical goods, inspect the item thoroughly before pressing "Confirm Receipt" in your dashboard. Once you confirm, funds are released to the seller. Don't confirm receipt if the item is wrong, damaged, or not as described — open a dispute instead.
Be alert to these red flags: 1) Seller asks to move conversation off-platform. 2) Price seems too good to be true. 3) Seller claims to be overseas and needs advance payment. 4) Requests for your BVN, OTP, or bank PIN. 5) Fake payment confirmation screenshots.
Use a strong, unique password. Enable 2-factor authentication if available. Never share your OTP or login details with anyone — eClinton Market staff will never ask for these. Log out of shared devices immediately after use.
Keep all communication on eClinton Market's messaging system. This creates a record in case of disputes. Sellers who insist on communicating only via WhatsApp or SMS may be trying to avoid accountability.
For expensive items, verify the buyer's profile and reviews. Require full payment through eClinton Pay before releasing items. Use our escrow system — it also protects sellers from chargebacks and fraudulent claims.
Before buying, research the typical market price for similar items. Prices significantly below market value are often a scam. Use our price comparison feature to see what similar items have sold for recently.
If something feels wrong, trust your instincts. Use the "Report" button on any listing or user profile. Our moderation team reviews reports within 2 hours. You can also reach us via WhatsApp support at any time.
